Store to raise cash for Chippy’s outdoor pool
Chipping Norton’s outdoor swimming pool has been selected by a major town supermarket as its charity of the year.
The Lido at Chipping Norton has been chosen by Sainsbury’s to be the focus of the store’s fundraising efforts over the coming twelve months.
The charity was nominated by Sainsbury’s customers and then chosen from a shortlist of three by its staff.
Over the coming year the shop will be organising fundraising events involving staff and also supporting The Lido’s own events, such as its annual Auction of Promises.
Plans are already in place for a distance swimming event in August and also for a Big Chippy Water Polo tournament in early September.
Sainsbury’s store manager Joe Hunt said: “The Lido is such a worthy cause and we’re pleased and proud to be supporting it over the next 12 months.
“We’ll be letting our customers know of our fundraising plans in-store and we hope they can join our colleagues in helping support them.”
The summer season is now in full swing at the pool.
In addition to swimming sessions throughout the day, The Lido is offering a range of activities to encourage everyone to get active. These include water polo for young people, synchronised swimming for adults, family kayaking and holiday lessons for beginners.

Meanwhile the Co-op's plan for expansion has been new tills! Not quite what the town expected when WODC gave the Co-op priority over Sainsbury's.
