Roadworks in Chipping Norton completed a week ahead of schedule
The £400,000 scheme to resurface the A44 and A361 in the centre of Chipping Norton has been completed faster than planned, with the road due to reopen to traffic today Saturday.Shopkeepers in the town made a lot of fuss that their trade had slumped because of the closure of Horse Fair, which runs from the junction of Oxford Road and Banbury Road to the Market Place.
Oxfordshire County Council's cabinet member for transport, David Nimmo-Smith, said there would be no extra cost for the speedy work.
He said: “I understand the engineers were able to work faster by working through the night and also because of the good weather. This was all built in to the original cost.” Works began on Monday, August 5, and was initially expected to take until the end of next week to complete.
