Chipping Norton Dad In Russian Custody Phil Ball is one
of six British people now facing 15 years in jail after a Greenpeace protest.
Phil and 29 other activists have been charged with piracy
after they attempted to board an oil rig in the arctic. In a repeat of a
protest carried out there last year. Before he left, Phil who lives with his
partner and three children in Oxfordshire said he knew he wouldn't be home
soon.
His brother Steve, also told us, "He (Phil) has three
lovely little kids and he's driven to protect their future". In
particular, he's worried about the latest UN climate report along with drilling
in the arctic. Adding, "Phil knows that he is fully supported by the
family and that they all understand the issues he's fighting for. I hope that
comforts him wherever he's sitting at the moment. We're doing our best to bring
him back".
Man, 20, will be sentenced for sex act on teen
A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been convicted of having sexual
activity with a child and cleared of indecent assault. Tommy Fury, of The
Beeches Caravan Park, in Old London Road, near Chipping Norton, was found
guilty of performing a sex act on a teenage boy in 2011.
A jury in Oxford Crown Court took seven hours and 23 minutes
to reach a majority verdict by a margin of 10 to two yesterday.The trial
started on Monday and Charles Ward-Jackson, prosecuting, said the incident had
taken place in Chipping Norton.
During his cross examination the barrister said to Fury:
“You lay down next to him and put your hand down his trousers, didn’t you?”The
defendant replied: “No, I didn’t.” Mr Ward-Jackson also asked questions about
text messages sent from his phone to the complainant, which referred to the
incident.
Fury said he did not know who sent the messages and that he
sometimes left his phone charging at a friend’s house.Mr Ward-Jackson said:
“It’s so much simpler than that – you sent them.” Fury replied: “No, I didn’t
send those text messages.”
Mr Ward-Jackson added that some of the texts seemed to be
“blaming” his victim for the encounter.
Fury was cleared of an indecent assault on another teenage
boy, who it was alleged he had kissed on the neck. He was released on bail and
will be sentenced at the crown court next month.He said another message
threatened to tell people about the assault and was “blackmailing” the
teenager.
