Births at the Midwifery-Led Unit (MLU) are still suspended following the launch of an investigation in October last year. At a Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting in November, issues relating to working practices within the unit were raised and higher than expected transfer rates and falling numbers of births had been noted which led to the decision of temporarily suspending the births.
However, an interim report to Oxfordshire’s joint health overview committee by head midwifery Jane Hervé and planning and information director Andrew Stevens, said nothing was wrong with the rate of recent births transferred to other hospitals and that these were entirely appropriate and done to ensure the safety of the mother and baby.
